Top 5 Pregnancy Myths - Debunked!
Show Notes:
Ever heard someone say you're “eating for two”? Or that once you’ve had a cesarean, you’ll always have to? Let’s set the record straight, friend! In this episode, I’m breaking down five of the most common pregnancy myths that are still floating around out there—and giving you the real, evidence-based truth (with a side of tough love and encouragement, of course). ✨ You don’t need to follow all the advice being thrown your way. You just need good information and a whole lot of trust in your incredible body. Let’s dive in.
[2:44] Myth #1: “You’re Eating for Two” | This one makes me laugh (and cringe). You don’t need double the calories—you need double the nutrient quality. “The way to look at this is: I don’t need to eat for two, but I should be eating twice as healthy.” I share protein goals, snack ideas, and how tracking your intake for just a week can be a total game changer. Your baby (and body) will thank you.
[10:20] Myth #2: “Exercise Isn’t Safe During Pregnancy” | Nope. Quite the opposite! Walking, bodyweight workouts, and even yoga can actually decrease your risk of complications. “You have your own weighted vest—you’re growing it!” We talk movement, hydration, salt, and how keeping your body aligned and active during pregnancy can mean less pain and a smoother birth experience.
[16:43] Myth #3: “Morning Sickness Only Happens in the Morning” | Ha! If only. I share what I’ve observed from hundreds of mamas (and podcast interviews!) about how daily habits like protein, water, and movement can lessen nausea—for many women. “This is 100% anecdotal, but moms who prioritize protein, water, and walking tend to have less morning sickness... it’s worth a try!”
[18:21] Myth #4: “Your Baby Needs to Be Born by Your Due Date” | The “due date” is a best guess. Not a deadline. Not a timer. And definitely not a reason to rush baby out with an unnecessary induction. “It’s actually our babies that give the signal that tell us when it’s time.” I explain why first-time moms average 41 weeks and 1 day, and why it's so important to understand your rights and the realities behind induction pressures (especially post-Arrive Trial).
[23:11] Myth #5: “Once a Cesarean, Always a Cesarean” | VBACs (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean) are not only possible, they’re safe for many moms—and absolutely worth exploring. “You have to find somebody that’s gonna be on your team.” I share what to look for in a VBAC-friendly provider, red flags (like the dreaded VBAC calculator), and why I created an entire VBAC class inside the My Essential Birth course just for you.
