From Fight Camp to Birth: How a Pro Fighter Prepared for Labor w/Madie Meacham

I never thought I would hear birth being compared to fighting, BUT it's actually kind of perfect and I loved every minute of listening to it!

In this episode, I’m joined by Madie — a professional fighter, dog trainer, and mom — who shares how she approached pregnancy and birth with the same mindset she brings to fight camp: strategy, mental strength, and trust in her mind & body.

We talk about navigating pregnancy when you can’t work out, how to choose the right midwife, and making intuitive decisions in labor — including whether or not to get the epidural. Maddy’s story was so much fun to listen to and I hope you'll enjoy diving in!

Here’s What You’ll Learn in This Episode:

2:30 – From fighter to first-time mom
Meet Madie: professional fighter, dog trainer, and Utah mom. How her life completely shifted when pregnancy entered the ring (get it?! 😉)

3:48 – When pregnancy changes your body, and your identity
She opens up about not being able to fight or even workout — and the mental battle of giving herself grace when her body couldn’t perform the way it used to.

7:06 – How she chose the right midwife
What she did when she started second-guessing her provider at 20 weeks.

10:27 – Weight gain & partner prep
She talks about gaining “more than expected,” why it wasn’t actually a problem, and how she and her husband prepared together for birth.

13:51 – "Birth is a nine-month fight camp" - Madie
How she used visualization, meditation, movement, and the My Essential Birth tools to mentally prepare for labor.

19:24 – Cervical checks & playing the mental game
She talks about how she loved cervical checks because she was curious about where she was at, and how passing 37 weeks became a mental game, since her first was born at that time.

26:46 – The birth: intuition, epidural & changing baby’s position
Contractions came fast, her toddler came along for the ride, and intuitive position changes she made to help her baby move into a better position for birth.

46:58 – How My Essential Birth was exactly what she needed
The specific ways the course helped her feel calm, confident, and empowered throughout her pregnancies and into her labors.

50:23 – Her best advice for moms & dads
For moms: the one mental practice every pregnant woman should be doing.
For dads: a warning about newborn poop. 😅
