Circumcision: Both Sides

We don't shy away from discussing the difficult stuff and this week's episode is no exception! We get into the nitty-gritty behind all things circumcision...a big decision if you are expecting a little boy.  Since we both have contrasting points-of-view on this topic, it means you'll find a safe space, support, and honest talk

All of the mamas in our community are trying to do what's best by their baby. So even if your decision on this topic is different than someone else's, you deserve all the love and respect we can offer. Keep doing you- you're a GREAT mom!

[2:12] You are going to get two very different points of views from both of us because we both represent opposite sides...and we still get along and respect and support each other as women and mothers!
[3:42] Cortney & her husband were on different sides of this issue at the beginning.
[4:14] Cortney's initial reasons for circumcision: uncircumcised penises were prone to infection and weird-looking.
[6:00] Cortney talked to her husband's side of the family to get more info and found out that none of the boys had any infections or issues whatsoever.
[8:10] Stephanie discusses her experience with circumcision.
[9:36] Stephanie took her baby who was born at home to the pediatrician at 1 month old and let the pediatrician know that she would like him to be circumcised. She didn't know there was a time limit to how young the baby had to be in order to perform the circumcision without anesthesia.
[11:18] Stephanie took her son in for what she thought was a UTI and it turns out he had an infection in the foreskin of the penis due to being unable to retract the foreskin and clean the area. *This is not always an issue for uncircumcised boys.*
[13:13] We talk about issues that can happen with circumcision.
[14:00] We did some research about how common is it to have issues on either side,  and we found that the incidence of complications is about the same even though the issues are obviously different.
[14:34] We discuss the different ways to circumcise a baby and Stephanie shares her personal experience with both.
[18:11] We get into the moral points of view that you may hear and relate to regarding circumcision.
[22:13] We encourage mothers to watch a circumcision on a child before making a decision if she is considering it.
[23:42] We discuss the official position of the American Academy of Pediatrics on circumcision.
