Am I Pregnant?! Answers for the First 6 Weeks

The first six weeks of pregnancy can feel like the longest waiting game of your life. Heck, those two weeks after you have sex may as well be a year!! Even once you’ve got the positive test, and your body is already shifting, that first prenatal appointment still doesn’t happen for weeks. Cue: late-night Googling, second-guessing every cramp or craving, and wondering what’s actually normal.

In this episode, I’m pulling back the curtain on those early weeks. From my own experiences (yes, even as a birth educator, I was up at 3 a.m. searching symptoms πŸ™‹‍♀️) to what I see with my doula clients, I want you to feel seen, supported, and not alone in this in-between stage.

We cover:

  • [00:40] The first six weeks — why they feel so long, what’s “normal,” and why this stage can also feel so isolating.

  • [09:55] Implantation bleeding — what’s considered normal spotting and when to call your provider.

  • [10:16] Nausea — why it often kicks in around weeks 5–6, the wide range of what’s normal, and why some moms never feel it.

  • [11:02] Increased urination — what’s happening with blood volume and kidneys, and why hydration + protein matter.

  • [13:30] Exhaustion and energy dips — why building a placenta takes so much out of you, and simple strategies to cope.

  • [18:10] Safe movement in early pregnancy — why walking, swimming, yoga, and gentle strength work are powerful for your body and baby.

  • [23:45] My three favorite labor-prep exercises — pelvic tilts, squats, and forward-leaning inversions (plus a free guide).

  • [27:50] Smart questions for your first appointment — setting the tone with your provider, and remembering you’re the consumer.

  • [29:10] Due dates — how providers calculate them, why “guess dates” are more accurate, and how your own cycle tracking can matter more than ultrasounds.

  • [31:00] Induction — what to ask early on, red flags to watch for, and how to make sure your preferences are respected.

  • [32:40] Cesarean — why asking about your provider’s C-section rate (especially for women like you) is one of the smartest early conversations you can have.

  • [35:00] Building your care team — why your provider should feel like part of your support system, not your boss.

  • [37:15] The emotional side of the wait — why it feels lonely, and how to remind yourself you’re right where you’re supposed to be.

These early days don’t have to feel lonely or overwhelming. Think of this episode as a voice of calm in the noise, real talk, evidence-based insight, and a reminder that you’ve got this.
